Focusing efforts for youth and climate change

The renowned music festival MUWI La Rioja Music Fest will become the scene this year for an important initiative that seeks to value various regions of the European Commission, as well as raise awareness and promote understanding about climate change and migration. This noble effort is part of the Mindchangers project, which is aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) of the 2030 Agenda.

A European project committed to the future

The Mindchangers: REGIONS AND YOUTH FOR PLANET AND PEOPLE project is a four-year European commitment, which receives funding from the DEAR Program of the European Commission and from alliance partners. The main mission of this initiative is to raise the awareness of European youth and encourage their active participation in achieving the SDGs, placing special emphasis on the challenges posed by climate change and migration.

This important project is being implemented simultaneously in six European regions, following similar lines of action in all of them. Spain, France, Italy, Belgium, Germany and Romania are the countries in which this initiative is being carried out. In the specific case of Spain, the region of La Rioja is the only one that is part of Mindchangers, thanks to the collaboration of the Government of La Rioja and the Coordinator of Development NGOs of La Rioja (CONGDCAR).

Two lines of action that make the difference

To achieve the objectives set by Mindchangers, the Government of La Rioja and CONGDCAR are working together on two main lines of action:

The first one is local. Grants have been awarded to finance projects that are led by associations and NGOs in the region. Following the mission of Mindchangers, these projects fall within the scope of raising awareness among youth and promoting their active participation in issues related to climate change and/or migration.

The second line of action is focused on the design and execution of various activities and events in each of the regions, with the aim of publicizing the Mindchangers project and supporting the entities that have been beneficiaries of the subsidies. In particular, the Government of La Rioja, with the support of CONGDCAR, will finance a space at the main venue of the MUWI festival, Bodegas Franco-Españolas, dedicated to Mindchangers.

A music festival with a strong social component

During the festival there will be two free illustration workshops aimed at young people, as well as a painting show during MUWI Sunday, in which we will have the illustrator Raquel Marín from La Rioja. These activities, in addition to offering a unique experience to attendees, will serve to focus attention on climate change and migration issues.

Those interested in participating must be between 15 and 35 years old, show some interest in painting and have a passion for the great global challenges. The workshops will consist of two sessions, in the first of which sketches will be worked on, while in the second the works will be finished. A selection of the best illustrations will be exhibited outdoors during MUWI Sunday.

Registration for the workshops is now open.
