When the cold arrives in many places, such as England or Germany, mulled wine or ‘Glögg’ is typical, which usually accompanies the consumption of sweets.
In Spain it is not something common, although probably if many tried it things could change, since it is a sweet, hot and very delicious drink, also when it is brought to a boil during its preparation, it has very little alcohol. In fact, the longer it is heated, the more alcohol will evaporate, and the caramel flavor will intensify.
Here we show you the recipe to prepare mulled wine at home in a simple way
How to make mulled wine at home
Ingredients
- A bottle of red wine
- Two large tablespoons of sugar
- 1 teaspoon cardamom seeds
- 1 or 2 nails
- 1 anise star
- 1 cinnamon stick
- Nutmeg
- Piece of orange and/or lemon peel
Elaboration
Put all the spices in a pot, as well as the orange peel, the lemon and the sugar. It is caramelized and, so that it does not stick, add a splash of wine.
When the sugar dissolves, add more wine and simmer for half an hour. It is important to stir more or less constantly. Without letting it come to a boil, remove from the heat.
Strain and serve. When serving it, it has to be very hot. It usually accompanies the famous Christmas gingerbread or almond cookies.
It can be kept in a bottle to heat it up and use it later
